We hear over and over again that breakfast is an important meal and shouldn’t be skipped. With our busy lives it’s sometimes difficult to take that extra few minutes to put together a nutritious meal to break our night’s fast.

I try to set aside some time every week to prep some quick breakfasts and make sure that I have a few grab-and-go options in case I’m really in a hurry.

But I like variety and wondered what the top nutrition experts eat in the morning. So I did a little research. I am excited to share these ideas with you.

Dr. Andrew Weil

A pioneer in integrative medicine, Dr. Weil is dedicated to treating the mind, body, and spirit not just the symptoms. For breakfast, he believes in a eating a protein filled breakfast – one-quarter to one-third of the day’s protein – with some fiber and a bit of healthy fats.

Try: Whole-grain cereal with almond milk and flax seed sprinkled on top. Add a bit of fruit and a couple of eggs to complete your breakfast.

Keep Basic Items on Hand

The best way to ensure you eat and eat well is to keep your refrigerator and pantry stocked with the right foods.

Protein, good carbs, produce, and fiber-packed foods are all a perfect base for your first meal of the day.

Also try adding leftover veggies from last night’s dinner to your morning egg white omelet for a great start to your day.

Additionally, if you’re really pressed for time, having a protein shake or smoothie with your favourite fruits or veggies is a definitely a quick healthy breakfast fix.
