You’ve spent the winter months relentlessly pounding away in the gym on the treadmill, elliptical, stair master or even attending various group indoor exercise classes. The goal: to increase your cardiovascular output or to simply obtain that “summer body”. Summer has arrived and you are ready to show off the fruits of your labor.

With the increase in temperature you want to continue with your cardio goals but you may prefer to complete them outdoors opposed to being confined to the gym. Here are a few activities that can have you basking in the sun while maintaining that enviable body.

It’s here, it’s here! At last it’s here! Finally, the beautiful weather has arrived.You have worked so hard all year round for an enviable body and now the beautiful weather has arrived and you are faced with a conundrum. How do I maintain or better yet continue to build on this enviable body while enjoying the gorgeous weather? In your head may contemplate; artificially compressed cool air or enjoying the natural elements that nature has to offer? How can one stay fit and enjoy the great outdoors simultaneously? You can take your weight training outdoors or try some of the following activities listed below.  Lather on some sunscreen, grab a friend, a bottle of water and get ready to achieve your “two-in-one” goal.

Hiking is a great outdoor activity that can be done by either a veteran or a rookie. It’s great for you health as it helps reduce the risk of heart diseases such as heart attack and stroke. During hiking your blood is continuously being pumped and circulated throughout the entire body. If you want an added challenge hike for a longer period of time or try uphill hiking.

Bike riding is one of the oldest recreational activities. Most people have been doing this since childhood and continue to do it as adults. Bike riding increases the muscle mass in your legs. Since cycling utilizes the larger muscles in your body (quadriceps and hamstrings) this allows for more fat to be burned. This is essential in increasing your fat burning ability zone

If you want to satisfy your competitive spirit, consider signing up with a recreational sports team. These organized sports leagues are great ways to meet new people with similar interests. This will also create a new challenge for yourself and develop your camaraderie and sportsmanship.

So there you have it, an array of fun activities to keep you fit while enjoying the beautiful summer weather. These exercises are universal which allow you to maintain and improve your fitness levels while enjoying the outdoors. These inexpensive activities offer a great heart -pumping workout in addition to getting some good old fashion Vitamin D.
