FUN FALL ACTIVITIES TO ENJOY!

In Entrepreneur, Exercises, Fitness, Healthy Living, Motivation, Nutrition, Personal Training, Speaking

So many people I know enjoy the Fall season as the days becomes cool and crisp, pumpkin spiced lattes are the hot drink of choice and then there’s the fashion…. layering anyone?

Unfortunately, I’m not one of those people. Fall signifies less sunlight (not a good thing if you experience anxiety and depression), shorter days, bye to daytime sunlight and the fact that winter is right around the corner.

Now, I’m aware that I still have to find ways to cope with autumn, beside #Netflix and Chill and I’m sure you do too, because whether we like it or not fall is here.

Here are some fun activities to enjoy in the cooler months, before hibernation kicks in full effect. Check them out!

  1. Go Hiking: One of the best ways to submerse yourself in nature is to get out and hike on local trails. Hiking provides a fun and fabulous cardio workout while also helping to build those leg muscles as you might find yourself going up and down hills (or mountains depending where you live). It also improves your balance cause trails provide uneven surfaces that cause you to be more cautious with your steps. If you live in a city, it’s the perfect way to escape and lower your stress levels from the hustle and bustle that normally surrounds you, and there are usually some great lookout points. If you’re into photography, it’s a dream spot to capture some gorgeous photos! Make sure to always hike with a friend though and follow the directional signs, starting on the easy trails and working your way up to the more advanced ones as you get out more often! It’s a beautiful way to spend an afternoon and is a fun activity for the whole family!

  1. Visit A Pumpkin Patch and Carve Jack-O’-Lanterns: Halloween is just around the corner so instead of hitting the local grocery store to grab your pumpkins, find a local pumpkin patch and spend the morning or afternoon taking a hay ride, visiting some animals and of course, choosing your own pumpkins. It’s a fun experience especially if you have young children, and you’re supporting locally owned businesses, which is always a plus! After you’ve picked your pumpkins and taken them home, you get to carve them into Jack-O’-Lanterns which I’ve got some fun ideas for you to try out with all those “Guts and Seeds” you find inside. Check them out:

  • Toast the Pumpkin Seeds: Lay the seeds out flat on a pan and sprinkle some seasoning on. A few I’ve tried are Turmeric & Chili Powder; Za’atar & Lemon Zest; or keep it simple with just Salt & Pepper. Pumpkin seeds offer a great source of protein and unsaturated fats, while also containing nutrients like: iron, selenium, calcium, B vitamins, and beta-carotene.
  • Pumpkin Juice: if your kids are fans of Harry Potter, then they will love this one! It can be as simple to make as pouring boiling water over the stringy bits and seeds, and then letting them soak for 30 minutes. You then drain out the solid parts, add a lil’ brown sugar and there you have it! You could also get your kids to look up a Harry Potter recipe and have them help you make it, getting them involved and hopefully enjoying the fresh juice!
  • Pumpkin Face Mask: Looking to relax? Well separate out the seeds from the “guts,” add a little olive oil and honey and you’ve got a great gooey face mask that contains vitamins A & C to help nourish your skin.

  1. Go Apple Picking: Like pumpkin picking apple picking is a great activity to get outside, support local businesses and the best perk, you get to pick the apples straight from the tree. I think you can taste the freshness as you bite into one (lets be real, no one can resist trying at least one when you’re out in the field). The age old saying goes, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” and it might just be bang on. Consuming apples has been associated with reducing your risk of heart disease, cancer, asthma, and type 2 diabetes. This is because apples are excellent sources of fiber, pectin, and vitamin C. Note that a lot of important nutrients are contained in the skin so try not to peel it off! If your left with a bushel of apples and not sure how you’re going to eat them all, here are a few ideas:

  • Apples with Cinnamon: This is a great one for a super easy but tasty snack. Just slice up your apple, sprinkle with a lil cinnamon and melted coconut oil, and pop them in the oven until soft. Soooo Good and satisfying, plus the bonus of no sugar added!
  • Apple Loaf: Just like banana bread, you can make an apple loaf, and they are perfect for quick breakfasts or snacks. They also freeze well too so if you’re in a crunch to eat those apples, make a few loaves and freeze them. Perfect to bring out in the winter!
  • Applesauce: Helps promote good digestion due to the pectin that is found in the apples, while also being a light snack or good alternative to sugars when baking. You can make your homemade apple sauce without the white sugar and get an unsweetened treat, that you can add some nuts or seeds too when consuming.

  1. Outdoor Chores: While you might not like the term “chores” getting things done around your house like raking leaves (man do I have a ton in my backyard), putting away summer patio furniture and cleaning out the garage so your car can fit in for the winter can be pretty rewarding. It allows you the time to get outside and surprisingly destress while getting some work done! If you want to get the family involved, you can even decorate your house for Halloween or come November Christmas. When it’s a group activity it goes faster and allows everyone to see the great end product!
